Neck Spasm Relief

A spasm is defined as, tightening of muscles involuntarily, which can often cause intense pain. This pain can last anywhere from a few minutes to days, even after the spasm ends and the muscle relaxes. These spasms can happen anywhere in the body but are very common in the neck. Our team at Movement Concepts Physical Therapy in Rockville Centre, Bayside, and Garden City can help treat the neck spasms you may be suffering from.

Here are a few examples of the many causes of a neck spasm:

  • Injury
  • Overuse
  • Poor posture
  • Stress
  • Carrying something heavy
  • Sitting at a computer for an extended period of time

  • Severe sharp neck pain
  • Headaches
  • Stiffness of the neck
  • Reduced range of motion
  • Trigger points in the neck that cause pain in another place
  • Numbness or tingling in the hands or arms

Treatment

After reviewing your medical history and examining your neck, our physical therapist will be able to decide if you are suffering from neck spasms. Our physical therapist will design a treatment plan to help reduce the pain and spasms. A treatment plan can include:

  • Physical Therapy – Physical therapy is important to help reduce and monitor pain and spasms.
  • Stretching – Our physical therapist will give you different stretching exercises to reduce spasms from occurring.
  • Massage – Massage therapy will help to loosen tight muscles with deep pressure in the neck.
  • Ice – Icing your neck every 3-4 hours for about 20 minutes will help with inflammation and swelling.

Neck spasms can often be a painful condition but can be easily treated with the right treatment. If you think you may be suffering from neck spasms, contact Movement Concepts Physical Therapy in Rockville Centre to make an appointment today!
