Whether you’ve recently been injured or suffer from a chronic condition, here at Movement Concepts Physical Therapy, we want to help you get back to your highest potential. Along with having facilities for physical therapy in Garden City, Rockville Centre, and Bayside, we offer our patients as many different types of service as possible to help you reach your rehabilitation goals. That’s why both our CEO Kristin Conforti, DPT and COO Cristina DeRosa, PTA are certified in Rockblade IASTM.

What is IASTM?

IASTM stands for Instrument Assisted Tissue Manipulation and refers to techniques derived from the traditional Chinese medicine practice Gau Sha. IASTM utilizes handheld tools to break down adhesions and restrictions that are too deep in the soft tissue for the clinician to effectively treat by hand alone. This improves blood flow to the affected area which can promote healing, mobility, and flexibility. It can also reduce pain and inflammation. Instrument-assisted manipulation is also particularly effective in dealing with scarring because it is able to break down scarred tissue at the cellular level to normalize the mobility and structure of the tissue matrix.

Why RockBlading?

RockBlades by the RockTape brand are some of the newest tool innovations for IASTM. We choose to offer RockBlading physical therapy in Garden City, Rockville Centre and Bayside because the tools are made of weighted surgical steel and shaped specifically for the efficiency of treatment.

Examples of conditions that can benefit from RockBlading IASTM are:

  • Tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow
  • Biceps tendinosis of the shoulder
  • Back/neck pain and tightness
  • Hamstring/Calf Strains
  • Plantar Fasciitis
